01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The atsuage, a thick fried tofu, is made to order and makes a tempting first dish with a drink at Ateya. Visitors have described enjoying its soft, fluffy texture fresh from the fryer. The menu lists “Freshly Fried! Atsuage” (300 yen).

Other visitors have praised the dashimaki tamago, or Japanese rolled omelette, and reported sharing potato salad and aji fry as snacks. The menu also includes items such as fried chicken (380 yen) and chicken tenderloin fried with ume plum and shiso (350 yen), making it easy to choose a few small bites. For something to nibble on with a drink, consider shuto cream cheese (350 yen) or avocado with salted kelp (380 yen). Drinks include draft Sapporo Black Label and Kakubin highballs, as well as the “Oni Lemon” chuhai, served with lemon slices. One diner who tried the Oni Lemon sour enjoyed its intense lemon flavour and followed it with a plain sour.

There are options for a final dish or a full evening meal, too. Alongside dishes visitors have tried, such as keema curry, kasujiru soup and potato salad, the menu lists a “Night Set Meal” (1,000 yen), served with rice, miso soup, a main dish, 2 small side dishes and tea. It suits both a quick drink at the standing counter and an evening when you want a proper meal. One visitor found it easy to drop in alone. This is a casual izakaya where you can dine in: order a plate to go with a drink, or choose the set meal, depending on your appetite.
